Detroiter's remember Sander's but mostly for the hot fudge and ice cream dishes. Many of us recall having lunch at Sander's with Mom and sitting at the counter dreaming about the hot fudge dessert. But you had to eat the lunch portion first! So here is a recipe for Sander's tuna salad. Enjoy the traditional tuna salad sandwich or put a scoop on a plate to start the wonderful low-cal plate!
TUNA SALAD LIKE SANDER’S (Peggy Morrison from 1973)
1 can (6 1/2 oz.) tuna
1/4 c. sour cream
1/4 c. mayonnaise
1/4 c. orange marmalade
3 T. finely chopped celery
1 T. sweet pickle relish
Mix ingredients together and chill. Make a tuna salad sandwich or re-create their low-cal plate!
Note: Peggy’s cousin used crushed pineapple in place of the marmalade.
