sketch of Bob above the Coney Sauce recipe.

Here is a recipe for coney island sauce for hot dogs which are popular in New Jersey, Michigan and Ohio. This sauce will make the hot dog look like a chili dog, but with a flavor twist that is worth exploring. You will want to top the hotdog with the coney sauce, chopped onion and yellow mustard. Hope you enjoy your coney dog! You can add some kidney beans to the sauce and have a wonderful chili too.

CONEY ISLAND SAUCE (John's)

1/2 T. thyme
1/2 T. cumin
2 T. chili powder
1 T. pepper
1 T. paprika
1 t. salt
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
dash cayenne pepper
3 c. water
2 lb. hamburger

Brown hamburger well; do not drain. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Leftovers can be frozen.
