2 1/4 c. sifted flour
1 t. baking powder
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 t. vanilla
2 T. milk
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. chopped dates
1/3 c. chopped Maraschino cherries
2 1/2 c. crushed corn flakes
Sift dry ingredients together. Combine shortening and sugar and cream well. Add eggs, vanilla and milk. Blend in dry ingredients and mix well. Add nuts, dates and cherries. Shape into balls using a level tablespoon of dough for each. Roll each ball in corn flakes. Place on greased baking sheet and top with a quarter of a cherry. Bake 375° for 10-12 minutes.
(yield 4 dozen)
Note: finely chopped candied red cherries can be substituted for the Maraschino cherries.
