This is a dog treat recipe that was called into the program in 1999.
3/4 c. hot water, beef broth or chicken broth
1/3 c. margarine
1/2 c. powdered milk
1/2 t. salt (optional)
1 egg beaten
3 c. whole wheat flour
Preheat 325°. In a large bowl combine water or broth with margarine. Add milk, salt and egg. Stir in flour 1/2 c. at a time, mixing well after each addition. Knead dough for 3-4 minutes and roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into dog bone shapes. Place bones on a greased cookie sheet and bake 50 minutes. Remove and let cool til dry and hard. Store in plastic bag.
(makes 1 1/4 lbs. dog bones)
