2 T. cooking oil
1 large onion sliced thinly
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. ground pork
1 c. mashed potatoes
2 t. ground allspice
1 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper
pastry for a double crust (9 inch) pie
1 egg beaten (optional)

Heat oil and sauté' onion till tender; remove and set aside. Brown beef and pork together and drain. Combine onion, meat, potato and seasonings. Line a (9 inch) pie plate with the pastry, fill with the meat mixture, top with the second crust, seal and flute the edges, vent top and brush with egg if desired. Bake 375°, 30-35 minutes or til meat pie is golden brown.
