2 T olive oil
1 can (28 oz.) of whole tomatoes or 2 lb. fresh tomatoes, cut up
1 t. dried basil or 2 T. fresh basil
1 t. sugar
3 cloves of garlic, minced or to taste
2 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper

Heat the oil and sauté garlic til golden. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Serve over pasta.
